How to Launch and Promote Your TikTok Shop

Published on 26.07.2026 by Tracey Chizoba Fletcher

There is no doubt that TikTok is one of the most popular social media platforms in 2026. That means if you have a brand, it is no longer optional to have a presence on the platform. This is especially true because Gen Zs use the platform as a search engine, which raises the need to create a strategy for TikTok content for businesses in 2026. Brands already using the platform have seen amazing success with hashtags such as # TikTokMadeMeBuy, which has generated over 72 billion views.

If you are a brand looking to increase sales on TikTok, one of the best ways is to open a TikTok Shop. This article is a guide to opening a TikTok Shop and using the platform to increase your sales.

What is a TikTok Shop?

TikTok Shop is a feature that allows creators, businesses, and brands to showcase and sell their products directly on the TikTok platform. Brands can showcase their products to TikTok users through in-feed videos, live streams, and product showcase tabs on the platform. On the other hand, influencers can act as brand affiliates, driving traffic to TikTok Shops and earning commissions on every sale they generate.

Setting up a TikTok Shop under The Seller Center Account

How you set up a TikTok Shop can mean the difference between success and failure. Here are the steps you need to follow to launch your shop successfully:

Understand the Requirements

Before you begin creating a TikTok Shop, make sure you meet the following requirements:

  • Have a TikTok business Account. You can create a new business account with a phone number and email, or you can switch your personal account into a business account. This will enable you to unlock new features under the seller center.
  • Be in the right region. The TikTok Shop isn't available in every location. You will want to confirm that you can use the feature in your country.
  • Product and content guidelines. You should also ensure you comply with TikTok policies, including product marketing and streamlining information.
  • Eligibility for TikTok Shop. If you want to sell on the TikTok Shop, you need to start by registering, which requires only a few steps. If you are a seller, you can submit your business documents and verification documents. You can also add banking information, email address, and phone numbers.

The simple requirements have contributed to the rapid rise of TikTok Shop.

Opening a Business Account

As noted earlier, you need a TikTok business account to unlock additional features, such as the TikTok Ads Manager and TikTok Shop Analytics. You cannot access these features with a personal account. You can sign up for the business account either on the app or on the website. You can then link the business account to your TikTok profile.

Some of the details you will need when signing up include:

Personal Details

  • You can sign up at the TikTok Seller Center and use your TikTok account, phone number, or email to sign in.
  • From the drop-down menu, select your country, then tap Enter. If you don't see your country in the list, it means the TikTok Shop isn't available there, and you cannot register.

Choose a Business Type

You will need to confirm whether you will be acting as a business or an individual on TikTok Shop. If registering as a business, you need to provide your official business name and EIN (employment identification number). This information is necessary for verifying the legitimacy of your business. After that, you can go through the verification steps as prompted by the TikTok seller center.

Add a Pickup Address/Warehouse or Return Address

TikTok will also require you to add the necessary details for your business address, pickup address, warehouse location, and return address. You can add these details by visiting TikTok Shop Seller Center>Accounts Settings> Warehouse Settings. If you are a dropshipper, you can use the seller’s address. If you are selling as an individual, you can add your home or business address.

Setting up Shipping Settings

Before you add the shipping details, determine how you will handle shipping. You will have two options: Shipped through the platform or Shipped by Seller. When you choose the Shipped by Seller option, you will be in charge of everything, from label printing and packing to handing off to the carrier.

You will need to select a carrier from the recommended list, such as USPS or UPS.  This is a good idea because you can have some control over the delivery and cost, which offers extra benefits if you have already set up shipping. The other alternative is to choose TikTok shipping, where the logistics are handled by the platform.

You will need to print labels from the TikTok carrier account, request pickup, and prepare the package using the seller center. This option can be a good choice if you don't want to handle shipping. However, remember that the Shipped by Seller option also gives you more control. But if you are new, you may want to start with the Shipped through platform option.

How to Optimize Your TikTok Shop

Opening a TikTok Shop is just the first step. You will also need a plan to optimize your presence to drive sales.  After you add products to your TikTok Shop, use the following tips to optimize it:

Add a Clear and Compelling Profile

A TikTok Shop serves as your storefront, so you will want to optimize your visibility there. Make sure you have added all the necessary details, such as your profile picture, videos, a bio that highlights the benefits, and links to other channels that show the shop's legitimacy. If you're already selling on other e-commerce stores such as Amazon, optimize your listing on those platforms too.

Add an Outstanding Product Listing

As you do with other e-commerce platforms, you will need to add a well-optimized product listing to improve your discoverability.

Some of the details to add in the product listing are:

  • High-quality pictures and outstanding thumbnails.
  • Some clear and keyword-optimized product titles.
  • Informative description filled with benefits and target keywords.
  • Leverage some product categories and product tags to increase visibility.

Create a TikTok Shop Content Strategy

Remember, TikTok isn't an e-commerce platform, and therefore, if you are just adding a list of products, you will lose your connection with your audience. That's why you need to create content that feels native to the platform.

To do that effectively, you will need to:

Tap into TikTok Trends

One way to increase your reach is to tap into TikTok trends. When doing that, maintain your brand tone and voice, and only participate in trends that make the most sense. You can stay updated by staying current on trending formats, challenges, and sounds. You can also leverage the TikTok For You Page and Discover to track the trends, and follow popular creators relevant to your product or brand.

Add the Relevant Hashtags

Add hashtags so TikTok can categorize your posts and make your videos more visible. When doing that, mix the broad hashtags with the niche ones. However, avoid adding too many of them; instead, focus on 3 to 5 tags per post. Do not include irrelevant or spammy tags.

Focus on Authenticity

TikTok prefers authentic content over scripted content. Therefore, focus on content that will show your authentic side, such as:

  • Product reviews and demos.
  • Behind-the-scenes videos.
  • Relatable stories.
  • Reactions and responses.

Promote Your TikTok Shop

After creating a TikTok Shop, adding product listings, and creating videos, you can now start promoting it. You can do that in different ways, such as:

Shop Ads

These are newer ad formats designed for TikTok to drive traffic to the shop. They are a good choice for promoting products on TikTok while including key details, such as product images, pricing, and a call to action with a link to the TikTok Shop.

There are two options for running these ads.

  • Live shopping ads. These ads are meant to promote your TikTok Shop during live sessions, so users can watch product demos, ask questions, and buy in real-time.
  • Video shopping ads. These are ads that feel like organic content but with a shopping element. This makes them a good choice for combining entertainment with e-commerce.

The TikTok Ads Manager allows you to target by behavior, interest, and lookalike audiences. Remember to add the TikTok Pixel to direct traffic to the site. This will help with tracking, optimization, and even retargeting.

TikTok Creator Collaboration

TikTok is a creator-focused platform, and this means you should consider using influencer marketing to grow your TikTok shop. The good news is that you can collaborate with microinfluencers, as they have high conversion and engagement rates. They are more accessible and feel more relatable to users. Again, give the creators the freedom to determine the kind of content they want to create, which will enable their authenticity and personality to be seen.

Host Live Shopping

You can also go live to directly engage with the audience, answer their questions, and show your product in real life. Start by promoting the live event early enough with a countdown and teaser videos. Use free gifts and exclusive discounts during the live, answer FAQs, and create unboxing videos that will highlight the benefits of the products.

Engage Even Post-Purchase

Remember that a TikTok strategy doesn't end with the checkout. You can keep the momentum going using post-purchase follow-ups, such as:

  • Adding a card to the package that asks your buyers to tag you in the review.
  • Creating a hashtag for your product or social proof.
  • Sharing posts of your happy customers. This can be a good way to increase trust levels.

Final Thoughts

A TikTok Shop can be a great tool for growing your sales on the short-video platform. However, since TikTok isn't an e-commerce site, you need a solid strategy to succeed with the shop. By following the tips outlined in this guide, you should be able to do so.
