Instagram Introduces Reels Watch History Feature

Published on 29.10.2025 by Tracey Chizoba Fletcher / Last Update: 29.10.2025

Meta has rolled out yet another update, once again drawing inspiration from TikTok. Recently, Instagram chief Adam Mosseri revealed that the platform is introducing a new “Watch History” feature. This addition will allow users to easily revisit and locate any Reels or videos they’ve previously watched within the app.

How to use news feature on IG

Adam Mosseri, recently explained the details of the platform’s new “Watch History” feature, which can now be found by navigating to Profile → Settings → Your Activity → Watch History. This section allows users to revisit Reels they’ve previously viewed, offering options to sort by date — from newest to oldest or vice versa — and even filter by specific accounts or date ranges. The update aims to help users rediscover videos they’ve watched but forgotten to save. However, despite Mosseri’s description, the feature does not show every Reel ever viewed. As indicated in preview screenshots, the history only extends back 30 days. Still, this addition significantly enhances user convenience, allowing for easier navigation through recently watched content.

Similarities to TikTok

The concept is notably similar to TikTok’s existing watch history function — a tool many users already find invaluable. Often, a video glimpsed in passing turns out to be something worth revisiting later, whether it’s an entertaining clip, a product recommendation, or a post users wish to share with others. Without a bookmark, such content can easily vanish into the algorithm’s flow, leaving users searching endlessly for that one memorable clip. By adopting this familiar yet practical feature, Instagram is addressing a common frustration among users and aligning Reels more closely with the usability and retention options that have long benefited TikTok’s audience.
