Published on 08.12.2024 by Tracey Chizoba Fletcher

If you're experiencing issues with Instagram's location features, such as incorrect or missing location data, consider the following troubleshooting steps;

Enabling Instagram location services

Ensure that your device's location services are active and that Instagram has permission to access your location.

  • On iOS: Navigate to SettingsPrivacy & SecurityLocation Services. Confirm that Location Services are enabled, then scroll down to Instagram and set it to While Using the App or Always.
  • On Android: Go to SettingsLocation. Verify that location services are on. Then, under App permissions, find Instagram and set it to allow location access.

Updating IG App

Using an outdated version of Instagram can lead to functionality issues. Update the app through your device's app store to ensure all features work correctly.

Internet Connection

A stable internet connection is crucial for location services to function properly. Switch between Wi-Fi and mobile data to see if the issue persists

Clear Instagram Cache:

  • On Android: Go to SettingsAppsInstagramStorageClear Cache.
  • On iOS: Offload the app by going to SettingsGeneraliPhone StorageInstagramOffload App, then reinstall it.

Verifying Address Accuracy

For business accounts, ensure that your address is correctly entered on both Instagram and any linked Facebook pages. Inaccurate information can prevent proper location tagging.

IG Global Server Issues

Check for Server Issues: Sometimes, Instagram's servers may experience downtime, affecting features like location tagging. You can check platforms like Downdetector to see if others are reporting similar issues.

If these steps don't resolve the problem, consider reaching out to Instagram's support for further assistance.
