How To Go Live on Facebook

Published on 17.07.2023 by Sofia N

Live streaming on Facebook is a powerful way to connect with your audience in real time. Facebook Live lets you share important occasions with your followers and effectively engage with them. Nowadays, broadcasting and live steaming is easier than ever. With just a few clicks, you can promote to thousands worldwide. But how do you go live on Facebook? For the newbies, we have compiled a short step-by-step guide through that covers the entire process, so you can start live sharing your message right away. From setting up your camera to choosing the perfect angle, here's everything you need to know on how to get started. If you're a first-time user, get ready to go live on Facebook and connect with your audience in a whole new way.

How does live broadcasting on Facebook work?

Going live on Facebook means broadcasting real-time video to your followers. Facebook live is like having your TV station, where you can share your thoughts, experiences, and ideas with your audience as they happen. With an internet connection, you can go live from anywhere, whether it's your bedroom or the middle of a crowded street. Unlike recorded videos, live streaming allows immediate engagement with your viewers through comments and reactions. You can broadcast live to your friends, family, and followers by clicking the "Live" button on your Facebook page or a mobile app. If you want to teach a new skill or promote your business, Facebook Live offers a unique platform to connect with your audience. Anyone looking to engage with their community can broadcast, save and share their live streams.

How To Go Live Using A Mobile Device

First, what you will need to be on Facebook live is a Facebook account, whatever kind it is (a personal or a business page). As we are talking about going live with a mobile device, what you need is a strong internet connection so the live won't lag or stop midway. Also, make sure you have Facebook app installed to your device to log in to your account. Using app on a phone is much more convenient than using the desktop version for mobiles. Facebook has made it incredibly easy to go live and broadcast your thoughts to the world.

  • Step 1: Just tap the "Live" button from your Feed, profile, or Page, select "Video,". Alternatively, if you're on your classic Page, create a post and select "Live video" to start connecting with your followers.
  • Step 2: Tap the "To" button under your profile name and choose your desired audience. Whether you want to share with the world or just a few, the choice is yours when you go live from your personal profile. Keep in mind that when broadcasting from a Page, your live video will be automatically set to "Public" and can't be changed.
  • Step 3: You can also add a description and give your audience a sneak peek of what's to come. Add an activity or an emoji to show the world what you're all about. Want to give a shoutout to your fans? Tag people to let them know you're thinking of them. With these simple additions, you can take your live stream from good to great in terms of engagements.
  • Step 4: Before you hit the "Go Live" button, take a moment to add a little extra fun to your video. Tap on ‘Effect’ to unlock different effects to make your Live video pop.
  • Step 5: Now you are set to start your live broadcast, and tap ‘Go Live.’
  • Step 6: When you finish your Facebook live, tap “Finish”  to end. Your Facebook live video will be posted to your timeline.

How To Go Live With Computer

We have already mentioned if you want to go live on Facebook, doesn't matter what device you use, you must be an owner of a Facebook personal profile or business page. On a computer, you can install the Facebook desktop application or go to your preferred browser to log in to your profile.

  • Step 1: To start, simply navigate to your feed, page, or personal profile and click "Live video." Or, you can click "What's on your mind?" and select "Live video" to start your broadcast. Then you will be redirected to “Live Producer.”
  • Step 2: Now, tap the "Select" button on the Go Live card to begin your live broadcast.
  • Step 3: Take a moment to choose your audience. Click on the “Audience Selector” option right below your profile name.  With Facebook's easy-to-use audience selector, you can select who gets to see your Live video, whether it's just your friends, the public, or yourself. As previously mentioned, remember that if you're broadcasting from a Page, your live stream will be set to "Public" by default and cannot be changed. However, you can still set minimum age requirements and restrict specific locations to ensure your content reaches the right audience.
  • Step 4: Head over to the Stream Setup tab and choose "Webcam" as your go-to video recording medium on your computer.
  • Step 5: Go to your Camera controls and ensure you've selected the camera and microphone you want to use.
  • Step 6:  Add the video description details you want to share. Give your video a catchy title and a short description to ensure your audience knows exactly what to expect. You can also share your live video to your Facebook Story to reach even more viewers. And if you're broadcasting as a Page, take advantage of Facebook's Cross-post feature to reach multiple audiences simultaneously.
  • Step 7: After the set-up is done, click on “Go Live.” Your Facebook live broadcast will start automatically.
  • Step 8: When ready to wrap it up, hit the "End Live Video" button and confirm.

How To Go Live With Only The Audio

Want to broadcast live audio only? Unfortunately, if your Page does not have enough followers, you can not go live with audio only. Your profile requires a minimum of 10,000 followers to do that.

  • Step 1: If you meet the requirements, navigate to your Page on Facebook and select "Live" from your page, profile, or feed.
  • Step 2: Choose the "Live Audio" option and click or tap on next.
  • Step 3: To select your audience, tap ‘To’ below your name. It's important to keep in mind that when broadcasting live audio from a Page, the default setting is Public and cannot be altered.
  • Step 4: You can add a description to your post and tag people or include a Feeling/Activity to give your audience more context.
  • Step 5: Now, tap on “Go Live.”
  • Step 6: When you are done with your audio live, tap “Finish.”

Conclusion

Going live on your mobile device is very easy and can be done in a matter of a few taps. If you are going live, make sure that you choose the right audience and test your audio before going live. Using Facebook this way can help you showcase your skills, share important moments, and grow your community. Whether you're a small business owner, a content creator, or an individual with a message to share, going live on Facebook can help you reach all these goals. So don't be afraid to hit that "Go Live" button! It's okay to feel intimidated at first, but the more you go live, the more comfortable you'll become.
