YouTube community guideline for better videos

Published on 07.06.2025 by Tracey Chizoba Fletcher

When it comes to YouTube, you can join a community of people worldwide. The guidelines are tricky, though; thus, we will break down everything that can help you keep YouTube fun and enjoyable for everyone.

YouTube's Community Guidelines

First of all, if you see content that you think violates these guidelines, report it. Sometimes content that would otherwise violate YouTube's community guidelines may stay on YouTube when it has some educational, documentary, scientific, or EDSA (artistic) context. In these cases, the content gets an EDSA exception.

Spam & deceptive practices

There are several aspects where spam and deceptive elements can be detected. The YouTube community is built on trust. YouTube doesn't allow content that intends to scam, mislead, spam, or defraud other users. All of these are related to the policies: spam, deceptive practices and scam policies, impersonation policy, external links policy, fake engagement policy, and playlists policy.

Sensitive content

There is also sensitive content. YouTube, firstly and more importantly, cares about protecting viewers, creators, and especially minors. That's why YouTube's got rules around keeping children safe, sex and Nudity, and self-harm. You can learn and understand what's allowed on YouTube and don't miss out on any policies if you don't want to be banned from the community. These policies can be read in Nudity and sexual content policies, thumbnails policy, child safety policy, suicide, self-harm and eating disorders policy, and vulgar language policy.

Violent or dangerous content

One of the more insane sections is the violent or dangerous content. Hate speech, predatory behaviour, graphic violence, malicious attacks and content that promotes harmful or dangerous isn't allowed on YouTube. If you want to know more, you must read up on toxic and hazardous content policies, violent or graphic content policies, violent criminal organizations policy, hate speech policy, and harassment and cyberbullying policies.

Misinformation

Lastly, there is misinformation. Certain types of misleading or deceptive content with serious risk of egregious harm are not allowed on YouTube. This includes certain types of misinformation that can cause real-world harm, like promoting remedies or treatments, certain technically manipulated content, or content interfering with the democratic process.

Additionally, EDSA Content

YouTube's community guidelines aim to make YouTube a safer community. Sometimes, content that would otherwise violate our community guidelines may stay on YouTube when it has an educational, documentary, scientific or artistic context. In these cases, the content gets an EDSA exception.
